A reservoir is a storage tank or artificial
lake for storing water. Many reservoirs are
created by the erection of a DAM. Smaller
municipal reservoirs are usually built of
concrete and hold a supplyof water sufficient
to cope with an emergency. Reservoirs are
also constructed to aid the control of
rivers, also to maintain water levels in
canals, and ensure water to supply water to
hydroelectric plants.
